X-Men: Days of Future Past

SHARE

(2014) ★★

Sky Movies Premiere: PREMIERE Friday 1 May, 3.25pm and 8pm

The future’s in a bit of a state, as usual. So Patrick Stewart sends Wolverine back to 1973 to sort out the Sentinels. “I was a very different man then,” says Stewart. Hence the casting of James McAvoy. Both Looper and Edge of Tomorrow dealt more crisply with this timeworn Terminator idea, while Watchmen offered a more diverting alternative US history. American Horror Story’s Evan Peters is good fun as quicksilver Pete, but he’s not in it much. Halle Berry even less so. And does her fellow Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence really need this kind of nudie-blue-suit stuff on her resumé? I confess these camp X-Men leave me cold. When it comes to X flicks I’m firmly in the Files and Quatermass camp.
