Repo Men

(2009) ★★★

E4: Tuesday 16 June, 10pm

Welcome to the future… a terrible place, as usual. And it looks like that global recession really kicked in. Jude Law and Forest Whitaker are the guys repossessing genetically modified body parts from clients who didn’t read the small print. A novel satirical spin on anguished hit-man themes, this horrific Philip K. Dick-ish tale is vicious and brisk but it isn’t video-game frantic. Understandably, Repo Man director Alex Cox objected to the title. Repo Men is actually based on Eric Garcia’s novel, The Resurrection Mambo. Unlike the noxious Wanted, it’s actually about something and, unlike the stupid Gamer, it isn’t simply nasty, it’s horribly feasible. But, be warned, it does get a bit surgical.
