The Inbetweeners Movie

(2011) ★★★

Channel 4: Saturday 1 August, 9pm

Four go mental in the Med… Freed from school and their parents, the Rudge Park sixth-formers – dumb blond James Buckley, lovesick puppy Joe Thomas, tall Blake Harrison, and bespectacled Simon Bird – follow in the footsteps of Steptoe & Son, Kevin & Perry, the Carry On and Comic Strip crews, and the entire staff of Grace Bros, by acting funny under the sun. Their inept attempts at picking up girls with their ‘classic’ club moves provide a full English breakfast of coarse laughs. Not so much slick American Pie as greasy Euro kebab. You’ll know within seconds if you have the stomach for it. It’s not so much near the knuckle as buried up to its grubby elbows. But these cretins in Crete are ethics boys at heart and they bump into a bunch of authentically unpleasant Brits abroad who are even uglier than the boys’ dance moves. Bird’s the narrator, which is a bonus. Sky MoviesComedy has The Inbetweeners 2, Tuesday at 8pm. Seconds don’t come any sloppier.
