From Withnail to Westeros! In some extremely exciting news, Richard E Grant appears to have joined the cast of Game of Thrones for season 6.

On the actor’s lengthy and distinguished CV, Game of Thrones is listed as his top television project, just ahead of ITV’s Jekyll and Hyde, which is due to launch in October. Logic would dictate that they are listed in order of production date, so that would mean we are likely to see the former Doctor Who actor somewhere in the Seven Kingdoms.

Grant – who has also recently appeared in Downton Abbey – could be the latest high-profile British actor to join the George RR Martin adaptation, following the likes of Ian McShane and Freddie Stroma.

A flood of Game of Thrones casting news has emerged in recent weeks, as filming begins across the world on season six.

It was previously confirmed that Max von Sydow will take over as the mystical Three-eyed Raven. Other newcomers include The Borgias star Pilou Asbæk as the savage Euron Greyjoy and 13-year-old Sebastian Croft as the young Ned Stark.

Elsewhere, Rory McCann has fuelled speculation that his character The Hound will return for season six of Game of Thrones, after he was apparently spotted in Belfast, near where the hit HBO show is being filmed.

Season six of Game of Thrones is currently filming and will return on April 3, 2016. In the mean time, check out this crazy video which transforms Joffrey into a sweet human being – we’re not kidding!
