Channel: PREMIERE Wednesday 14 October, 9pm
On the day he’s released from a 10-year prison stretch, getaway driver Dwayne Johnson heads for the people who put him there. He’s working his way through a kill list. And junkie cop Billy Bob Thornton is on his tail. “I created my own hell,” says Billy Bob.
“And I’m the demon who crawled up out of it,” says Dwayne. That’s the measure of the dialogue in a generic action flick far too enamoured of its shiny cars and guns. For all its supposed ‘grit’ and ‘edge’, it has no handle on reality, and in any case obliterates its hard stance with endless sentimental excuses.
And what’s with the slow-motion interludes in a film called Faster? Phil Joanou, who directed Johnson in Gridiron Gang, was replaced by George Tillman Jr, the man who made the blinged-up Biggie Smalls biopic, Notorious.
