Dismissed as a freak, little Norman (voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee) sees ghosts all the time, everywhere. But a witch’s curse has indeed hung over the New England town of Blithe Hollow since 1712, and Norman delivers the bad news during the school play: “The dead are coming!” His dad’s unimpressed: “It’s one thing acting like a mental case with your own family, but not in front of the whole town.”
A stop-motion cartoon with a cute case of the Tim Burtons, ParaNorman delivers an inventive Valentine to 80s horror in general and zombie-thons in particular. It’s much funnier and more expressive than Corpse Bride if not quite as engaging as Coraline or Frankenweenie. The PG classification is wholly warranted.
