Bullet to the Head

(2012) ★★★

Film4: PREMIERE Sunday 29 November, 11.10pm

After his partner is knifed in a bar, New Orleans gun-for-hire Sylvester Stallone forms an unlikely alliance with out-of-town cop Sung Kang to track down the money men responsible. Sung Kang wants to take them in, Stallone wants to take them out. Brutal, brain-dead comic-book thriller from Red Heat and 48 Hrs man Walter Hill.

Hired by Stallone after the actor fell out with director Wayne Kramer, Hill might be going through the motions. But he still knows how to make all the right moves. No slap on the wrists, this game is rough. Duly noted by Stallone: “Nothing much changed – some people got killed who no one’s ever gonna miss.” With a bluesy score reminiscent of John Carpenter’s They Live, it’s more authentically 80s than anything in Rock of Ages.
