The X Factor
This year, it’s not the contestants that are under the extremest of pressures in the X Factor live final – it’s the ITV producers and Simon Cowell. After an awful year for the formerly giant reality show of faltering ratings, criticised format changed and questionable new judges and hilariously bumbling presenting, the singing show faces a real uncertain future.
It needs to be one hell of a finale if it’s to haul itself out of the abyss. It doesn’t bode well that ITV has poached The Voice from the BBC, either – does the channel need two protracted singing competitions?
Can audiences be convinced that the 16 weeks invested in watching wannabe singers warble it out for a record contract was worth it? In tonight’s two-hour extravaganza, Reggie ’N’ Bollie, Louisa Johnson and Che Chesterman will sing duets with as-yet unnamed stars – but only two acts will make it through to tomorrow’s big finale.
