Useless nobody Emmet (voiced by ‘Galaxy Guardian’ Chris Pratt) is lost without his book of instructions. But he’s designated ‘the Special’ after finding the Piece of Resistance in Legoland’s Bricksburg. The guys behind Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs have fun with the little plastic figures in a pop-culture animation that’s Cloudy with a Chance of Cuckooland – and weirdly pixelated whenever smoke, steam or water is involved.
Liam Neeson’s swivel-headed Bad Cop/Good Cop is the pick of a mini-brick cast of comic-book characters. Bright and busy, frantic but funny, there are no frowny faces here. Except Bad Cop. And Batman. If we must have a Lego movie, it might as well be this yellow-brick ode.
