So, the Golden Globes happened – and Leo actually won an award! In what can only be described as a glorious, towering middle-finger salute to the Academy, Leonardo DiCaprio scooped the gong for Best Actor in a Drama for his intense portrayal of 19th century fur trapper Hugh Glass in Alejandro G. Inarritu’s brutal and uncompromising revenge thriller, The Revenant.

While DiCaprio winning was a great moment – he received a humbling standing ovation from everyone in the room – there was several memorable moments to savour at this year’s awards. Let’s take a look at 10 reasons why the Oscar will never live up to it’s so-called less illustrious cousin.

Jaimie Alexander calling out the teleprompter guy

Admittedly, we didn’t know who Jaimie was – but we already love her.

Sly won for Creed

Any award ceremony with Sylvester Stallone is worth watching.

Hanks gets the room going for Denzel

Denzel Washington received the Cecil B. DeMille Award (Lifetime Achievement) and received a rousing introduction from friend and colleague Tom Hanks. “Denzel, Denzel, Denzel.”

The whole Ricky Gervais/Mel Gibson moment

Judge for yourself, but you’re unlikely to get something as controversial as this at the Oscars…

Statham went full crank on Paul Feig

Remind us never to get on stage with Jason Statham. After seeing him throw down a vicious headlock on director Paul Feig. Statham also announced his engagement to model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Good luck to her. Statham would be a good enforcer when speeches go on too long though!

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s acceptance speech

His films are great, but Alejandro seems like such a humble, genuine and heartfelt individual. He has such passion!

That Titanic reunion

DiCap owned the internet twice during the ceremony. Once for his wincing look at Gaga, and the other for hugging Titanic co-star and fellow winner Kate Winslet (Supporting Actress for Steve Jobs). They shared a congratulatory embrace – and social media would not shut up about it. But it was pretty cool.

Jon Hamm being Jon Hamm

Jon Hamm won Best Actor in a TV Drama, signing off a glorious eight-year stint as Don Draper in Mad Men. He’s just as smooth in real life as he is in the show…Come on, just look at him!

Harrison Ford couldn’t be less interested in this interview

He’s at that stage where he’s beyond attempting to make an effort…

Yes, it’s true you can barely do anything at these awards shows without it becoming a ‘trending’ topic, but when someone like DiCaprio looks at someone like Lady Gaga in this way, there is only ever going to be one outcome…
