The rumours are flying (or in this case swimming) round the Internet that Warners Bros and DC may be close to signing actress Amber Heard on to play the role of Aquaman’s wife, Mera, for their superhero team up Justice League movie.

It’s being reported by our friends at Following the Nerd that Heard, star of North County and Zombieland, is close to inking a deal to play character of Mera, the strong and beautiful wife and future Queen of Atlantis in the DC Cinematic Universe, opposite the Aquaman star Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones, Conan the Barbarian).

“She will make her appearance first in Justice League, the movie that introduces various characters and story threads to fully launch the cinematic universe based on the DC Entertainment characters,” says The Hollywood Reporter, who originally broke the story, saying they have several sources who are in the know (whatever that means).

The star, who was a sensation in The Rum Diary, last year married co-star Johnny Depp. With her recent appearance in The Danish Girl, we think she would add a serious punch to the DC world, when the character eventually pops up for air.

More on this one as we hear it.
