(2014) ★★

Sky Movies Premiere: PREMIERE Friday 15 January, 8.00am and 6.15pm

Lucy Morton is 12-year-old Mickey Miller, sad and lonely after leaving New York for a village in Ireland that’s a Brigadoon too far for a girl who’s missing her dad and the horse he gave to her.

Legend has it this sleepy hamlet is haunted by the Black Knight (voiced by Michael McElhatton in a framing animation) and Mickey will need to summon some of his spirit if she’s to save a herd of white horses. It’s, you know, for kids. Who like horses.

The music is the first feature score by Patrick Neil Doyle, son of film composer Patrick Doyle. Kenneth Branagh’s regular composer of choice, Doyle Sr also scored Nanny McPhee. But that’s another story. More recently, father and son worked together on Pixar’s Brave and Disney’s Cinderella.
