E4: Saturday 16 January, 9pm
Energy drink salesmen Seann William Scott and Paul Rudd, jacked up on caffeine, crash the company truck. The court gives them a choice: 30 days or community service mentoring misfit schoolkids. Gaol looks good after one day in Sturdy Wings, a big-brother programme run by crazy Jane Lynch. Scott is sweet and Rudd is sour in a cynical, foul-mouthed, arrested-development sitcom with its heart in the wrong place.
“While I’ve got you here in my personal space,” says Rudd in that casual manner of his that makes ordinary material seem funny. His pal’s much dumber: “That ‘get out of jail free’ card… is that real?” Scott asks lawyer Elizabeth Banks. “I mean… it’s based on true events, right?” All the acting’s very good, by the way. Except for the guy playing Kumbaya at the weekend camp. That’s the director and co-writer David Wain.
