Did you freak out when you saw Tyrion Lannister among all those dead characters in the Hall of Faces? Yep, so did we.
In a very deliberate and provocative manner, HBO teased Game of Thrones season 6 with another clip that features zero footage from the actual upcoming run of episodes.
Instead, it focused on a host of dead characters in the House of Black and White, from Ned Stark and Joffrey Baratheon to the dead-but-not-really-dead Jon Snow.
Snow uttered the ominous words: “The Long Night is coming, and the dead come with it.” Now, that’s not to say that Ned, Robb and Catelyn Stark will magically rise from the dead this season. As much as we love Ned and Sean Bean, he’s dead. Gone. Finished. It’s been five years people!
However, in ending the teaser with Tyrion and panning the camera out to showcase the entire cast, it confirmed one bleak thing about this show we love: No one is safe. Not a single soul. This is GoT, after all, and it’s repeatedly proven that it will mercilessly rip your heart out time and time again.
Don’t worry, Tyrion is only in as much danger as every other major character on the show. If season 6 follows the same formula as its five predecessors, we will witness a major character death at some point.
It was Ned in season one and while there wasn’t necessarily a key character killed in season two, three more than made up for that with The Red Wedding, killing both Catelyn Stark and her son Robb. In season four it was the death that left us smiling; Joffrey got what was coming to him. Finally, good aul’ bastard Jon Snow hit the dust at the end of the fifth season, but we know for sure he’s not really dead, is he?
Sansa, Tyrion, Daenerys, Cersei, Arya…any of them could be killed this season. Don’t forget that. The show returns on April 24 and we’re expecting a full trailer before that, hopefully containing some new footage. Now, I think it’s time to watch that teaser again…
