We knew Ben Affleck’s Batman would be making an appearance in the highly-anticipated Suicide Squad, but it looks as though he’ll be sporting a different mask when he comes face-to-face with Jared Leto’s Joker.
At the New York Toy Fair, merchandisers revealed their upcoming toy lines and a number of action figures were showcased from Suicide Squad, teasing a different-looking Caped Crusader among others.
The Dark Knight’s Suicide Squad toy appears to have a similar costume from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but the figure also has a breathing mask affixed to his cowl. It’s difficult to tell if it’s a gas mask to shield Batman from some form of Joker poison (we know what you’re thinking and, yes, that would be cool).
According to reports from the Suicide Squad set last summer, Batman will chase The Joker and Harley Quinn, eventually landing on top of the Clown Prince’s unmistakable pink Lamborghini. Then, apparently, the car will plunge into water with Batman jumping off in the nick of time, so we’re unsure if it’s some form of underwater mask to help him breathe.
The Toy Fair also revealed action figures for other main Suicide Squad characters, The Joker, Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Katana (Karen Fukuhara) and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney).
Meanwhile, a toy figure of Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice appeared to reveal a major spoiler for the movie. The toy shows the criminal mastermind bald and in a prison jumpsuit, complete with shackles. So, Lex ends up in jail at the end of Dawn of Justice? That’s good to know.
Hey, wait a second – at the start of Suicide Squad, all the ‘Skwad’ members are incarcerated before Amanda Waller releases them to execute dangerous black ops missions in exchange for clemency. That could mean that the Squad members have some form of contact with Luthor before they are released. Perhaps he successfully manipulates the minds of some of our anti-heroes. The plot thickens, as they say.
In related news, the NBA also held its All-Star Game festivities this weekend, and during Dawn of Justice stars Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill promoted the movie, revealing some interesting tidbits. Here’s what Affleck had to say.

“It was very intimidating. I took comfort in knowing that this version of Batman is a little out of step, a little old, broken down. He’s a little over the hill–broken. He’s kind of given up. And when Superman shows up he’s like so powerful that he threatens everything that Batman kind of believes in, and it leads to this conflict.
“So it wasn’t like I had to play Batman in his prime, so that was at least the excuse that I told myself. For me the hardest part of this movie and movies like this is the amount of training you have to go into – I saw the first movie, Man of Steel that he [Cavill] was in and the kind of shape he was in and it was kind of intimidating… I was like, oh, do I have to look like that? That’s gonna be a lot of work.”
Cavill also admitted how intimidating it was to step into Superman’s boots for the first time when he did so for Man of Steel in 2013: “It is intimidating, yeah, when you first put on those boots. There’s a lot of pressure on you, and you can choose to ignore that pressure and do the best job you can, but that doesn’t get rid of the pressure which is making sure it’s the right thing for the fans. Superman is universal. He’s just the guy who loves the human race and wants to make sure he’s doing the right thing for everyone.”
