The Deadpool factor is sending shockwaves throughout the superhero movie universe. After the glorious box office success, everyone suddenly wants an R-rated superhero movie (obviously). The next in line is Wolverine, from what we’ve seen.
Reddit user RayChaos posted an image taken from a promotional booklet at 20th Century Fox’s Toy Fair 2016, which sees The Wolverine 3 anticipating an R-rating.
It’s interesting that Wolverine is next in line for an R-rating considering that its predecessor was cut down to be a PG-13 cinemas, with the R-cut making its way on to home release in the DVD. It’s clearly a matter that’s been long-debated in the meeting rooms of 20th Century Fox.
During a post-screening Q&A (via Collider), X-Men and Deadpool‘s producer Simon Kinberg admitted Fox were indeed looking at the R-rating in a whole new light.
“I think there are some stories that could be R-rated. I don’t know what they are, I mean I think the mainline X-Men movies have their own tone, which is a more operatic tone,” he stated. “It’s more dramatic, it is more PG-13 in a way. X-Force I could see being R-rated, and who knows?”
What do you think? would you be excited to see Wolverine in R-rated form or do you think it should remain more in line with a family-friendly rating? Make sure to let us know all your lovely thoughts!
