Eagle-eyed fans of The Walking Dead may have spotted an A-list Hollywood movie star making a rather unorthodox appearance in Monday night’s episode.
Yes, Johnny Depp made a cameo-of-sorts in the brutal and heart-stopping latest instalment ‘Not Tomorrow Yet.’ When we say ‘-of-sorts,’ we happen to mean as a decapitated head.
Thanks to some clever make-up work from the episode’s director Greg Nicotero, a particularly hillbilly-looking Depp could be seen on screen briefly.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Nicotero – who also executive produces the show – explained how the scene where Rick must choose a severed head that can double for Hilltop Colony leader Gregory (Xander Berkeley) was difficult because Berkeley had no time to do a head cast.
“The Gregory head is actually a cast of my head,” he revealed.
“One of the other heads, I don’t know if I’m going to get in trouble if I say this, was Johnny Depp. I think we had sculpted an emaciated version of a dummy head for something and we used Johnny Depp’s head as a basis just for a clay sculpt.”
He added: “Norman [Reedus, who plays Daryl] kept saying he wanted the heads when we were done shooting.” Ehhh, remind us not to ever hang around with Reedus.
