Captain America: Civil War can pretty much be regarded as another triumph for Marvel. Delivering a thrilling superhero blockbuster with heart and humour, the Russo Brothers succeeded in balancing the action, dialogue and character building, much like their Civil War predecessor, The Winter Soldier.
The film also features perhaps the greatest comic book movie action sequence of all time with that hero-on-hero melee on the runway of a Berlin airport.
However, while that scene has been hailed, some naysayers argued that the middle of the film didn’t boast enough action and while we personally disagree with such an assertion, it’s been revealed that Civil War had one kickass fight sequence between two Avengers that was ultimately cut.
According to screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely – in an interview with Fandango – there was at one point a fight between Captain America and Black Widow, which was cut because of ‘time.’
Markus said: “There was a good fight between Captain America and Black Widow that we lost mainly due to time.” McFeely added some colour: “[Cap and Black Widow] clearly have a deep relationship even though they’re clearly on opposite sides, and you never know how many times you need to hit that over the course of the movie. I think it works without this fight, but we certainly didn’t know if it would.”
This would have undoubtedly been a great scene to watch. Black Widow’s action scenes in the film are expertly choreographed and watching her take on the titular superhero would have added some depth to their ideological differences.
But, who would have won? “I guess Cap did,” McFeely admitted. “Let’s just say he got away in the moment, how about that?” Cap beating Black Widow? We’re not so sure.
We’re hoping this deleted sequence will be included in the Blu-Ray release of Civil War and, by the sounds of things, we’ll get to watch Scarlett Johansson showing off Natasha Romanoff’s combat skills is a solo film. We’re so down for that. Would you have liked the Captain America: Civil War deleted scene between Black Widow and Cap in the movie?
