Yesterday, we theorised about the potential fate of Arya Stark after the latest Game of Thrones episode – typically – left us with more questions than answers. Here’s a brief recap of events from Arya’s storyline: she tries to find a way to escape Braavos and the Faceless Men and sail to Westeros.

Things seemed to be going too good to be true and, what d’ya know, the Waif disguised as an old woman attacks her on the bridge and stabs her in the stomach. HBO released the official synopsis for the next episode revealing that Arya ‘faces a new test,’ so we know she survived the attack. But how? What if it wasn’t even Arya?

Redditor woohiya draws our attention to a rather mysterious screenshot which looks like Arya passing a girl identical to her. Yes, the theory is that Arya on the bridge isn’t exactly Arya – and there’s potential photographic evidence to back it up. The girl she passes is wearing the same clothes Arya wore when she posed as Lana and went to the theatre.

Here’s the screenshot that has triggered frenetic amounts of fandom speculation over the past 48 hours:

Passingwisdom has a different theory though: it may have been Arya who got stabbed, but it’s part of a ploy whereby she was helped by Lady Crane from the play, acquiring copious amounts of pig’s blood pouches to strap to her body.

“We can assume she knows enough from training to figure the waif will attack to the body. So I believe she has 1 or more pigs blood pouches around her body. She knows where and how to do this because last episode… she saved the actress. The actress then provided her help to make the scene on the bridge large and realistic. … She then leaves the water and leaves a trail of blood…. to lead her [enemies] to her. Expecting an unarmed (because she choose not to show needle during the fight scene) and injured girl; they will instead walk down a dark alley and be met with an uninjured girl who knows how to fight in the dark and carrying a sword.”

We really don’t accept that, after all of her training at the House of Black and White, she would stupid enough to walk about the streets in broad daylight when she knows some skilled assassins are on her trail.

It’s also worth pointing out that Arya is left-handed, while she appears to use her right hand when bargaining with the captain. What do you think about this whole Arya screenshot business? Watch the scene in question again below and let us know!
