We’re still short on specific plot details regarding Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant, the highly-anticipated sequel to Prometheus, but a pretty juicy spoiler has landed online centring on Katherine Waterston‘s lead character, Daniels. Before we unveil the Alien: Covenant rumour doing the rounds, we’re going to warn you once more that’s major spoiler territory!
According to The Playlist (the article’s spoiler has since been ‘removed at the request of the studio), Daniels is playing the mother of Ellen Ripley, the iconic character played by Sigourney Weaver throughout the Alien franchise.
“Sources close to film and actress tell us the Waterston will be playing Ellen Ripley’s mother in “Alien: Covenant,” which is an amazing twist and true to Ridley Scott’s promise that the post-“Prometheus” prequels will eventually lead right up to the first “Alien” movie. It should be noted however that Waterston isn’t the lead of the movie, and it’s an ensemble piece like “Prometheus.”
Michael Biehn discussing Newt…
So this is really cool and adds to the excitement generated after we listened to Michael Biehn discuss the film during an appearance at Belfast Comic-Con.
“It’s basically going to cut off three and four while bringing me and Newt back,” Biehn said.
“Newt is 26, 27 and if you look at the artwork he [Blomkamp] put up, it looks like Jessica Chastain, who won the Academy Award last year. Every actress is going to want to play her. Jessica Chastain to play Newt? We’re not going to say no to that!
Official synopsis: Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
Alien: Covenant is released August 4, 2017. An official website was recently set up, making us believe we’re not far our from getting a first teaser for the film.
