The Martian actor Donald Glover has joined the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming, lining up alongside Tom Holland’s Peter Parker for Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios’ joint production reboot of the character.

Interestingly, Glover was seriously considered for the role of Spider-Man himself back in 2011, before Andrew Garfield bagged it for The Amazing Spider-Man. Glover is well-known for 30 Rock and Community, while he also starred in Magic Mike XXL, as well as being a hip-hop musician under the name of Childish Gambino.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is directed by Jon Watts and will star Michael Keaton as Vulture, supported by a young cast including Zendaya, Michael Barbieri, Kenneth Choi and Tony Revolori. Robert Downey Jr, has signed on to play Iron Man.

Glover portrayed Miles Morales in Disney XD’s animated series Ultimate Spider-Man.
