As if the news that the CW have picked the series up isn’t enough for fans, it has now been revealed that their newest arrival will be joined by another, as Supergirl casts Superman for season two. The DC TV Universe just keeps expanding, doesn’t it?
Supergirl casts Superman
And who will be stepping into the red underwear? Deadline have announced that it will be Tyler Hoechlin, from Everybody Wants Some! (that exclamation mark is actually a part of the title, it’s not that we’re super pumped about this. Always cool under pressure, us lot), Teen Wolf and Road to Perdition.
Speaking to the site about the casting news, Supergirl’s executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said “Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman. We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”
Another step towards Justice League: The Series
There has been much chat online since the DC TV Universe started over whether or not we would see the trinity of Wonder Woman, Superman and Batman appear on the small screen, as the three had apparently been made off limits to television. Fans craving a mega hero team up would have to go elsewhere.
But now it seems that the times they are a-changin’, and this is another major hurdle cleared along the path to seeing the Justice League appearing on the small screen together in a live action series.
There had been some Internet buzz as well surrounding the possibility of seeing a past Man of Steel return to the role, further hinting at the idea of multiverses, as set up with The Flash’s run in (literally) with Supergirl. While it would have been interesting to see someone like Tom Welling return to tie in Smallville, a completely fresh take feels ultimately best for business.
