After much speculation following the riveting season 2 finale, Grant Gustin has announced that The Flash is officially adapting the Flashpoint comic book story.

Gustin took to Twitter to reveal the title of the season 3 premiere episode as ‘Flashpoint’ and thus confirming that an exciting new dawn beckons for the DC TV show.

In the “Flashpoint” comic book and the animated film, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, Barry Allen’s action result in a pre-apocalyptic world where superheroes have turned against each other (we haven’t seen that recently, right?)

However, it remains to be seen if the series picks up on this particular aspect of the comic book as Gustin said they will be doing their ‘own thing,’ hinting that they will deviate away from the source material.

Interestingly, after the news, Jeffrey Dean Morgan —who portrayed Bruce Wayne’s father Thomas Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice— expressed interest in reprising that role for Flashpoint. In the story, The Flash receives help from Batman— who is Thomas, not Bruce Wayne— in an alternate timeline where Bruce was the one who got shot, leaving Thomas to become a vengeful vigilante and his mother, Martha, to descend into insanity and become a female Joker.
