After months and months of speculation, we can finally confirm that Darth Vader will return to the Star Wars universe in the upcoming spinoff Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
The news was revealed by the front cover of Entertainment Weekly’s brand new issue for July, as you can see below.
Entertainment Weekly are promising several major story and character reveals, wioth Vader being the biggie. They also have new information on Jyn Erso, the female leading character played by Felicity Jones. They also confirm that Mads Mikkelsen is playing their father, as he previously let slip. He is a scientist “whose knowledge is sought by both sides,” — both sides being the Rebellion and the Empire, of course.
EW also tease full details on the entire squad of characters, played by an eclectic cast including Diego Luna, Jiang Wen, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Forest Whitaker, and Alan Tudyk – as a performance-capture droid. There will also be new details on Ben Mendelsohn’s Imperial officer villain, who we saw glimpsed in the trailer.
The magazine will also delve into the truth of the much-publicised Rogue One reshoots.
Check out a new clip from Good Morning America below, which says of Vader’s role: “Darth Vader kind of looms large over the plot, even when he’s not necessarily on screen, because the new villain, played by Ben Mendelsohn, he’s trying to fulfill the wishes of the Emperor, and he’s got Vader looming in the background, over his shoulder.”
